Youth Mission Statement"Joyfully spreading a passion for the glory of God in Youth Ministry" About us...High School Youth FILM & THEOLOGY The goal and nature of our Film and Theology Nights come from the Apostle Paul's message to the people at Mars Hill in Acts 17. Paul, after studying their objects of worship, uses their idols to spring board into a sermon about Jesus Christ. He even quotes a poem about the Greek god Apollo to illustrate one of his points.
We believe that God our creator has made us creative people. We see this every time we go to the movies. God has created us to reflect his glory as creative beings. We believe, also, that because man is sinful he often falls short of clearly reflecting the glory of God, often times, even trying to obscure it. Today's theaters and home entertainment systems are temples, consistently preaching to American Youth.
Our goal with Film & Theology is to examine the themes that Hollywood is preaching and take those themes to the Bible, so that Scripture can shape what we truly believe. We want our youth to know that entertainment is not meant to simply be absorbed. We want them to embrace the true definition of entertainment: "to hold in the mind."
The second Wednesday of each month will consist of our teaching time. This Fall we will be going through the book of Proverbs. It is a book famous for its Wisdom Literature and is written specifically to young people.
The Third Wednesday of the month will always consist of some sort of activity. Some nights will be mission and service oriented, while others will be simply meant for fun. These weeks will also function as flexible weeks. Sometimes, opportunities will be presented to us that conflict with our schedule for the rest of the month. These Wednesdays will be used to catch up where we may have fallen behind.
We will not meet on the Fourth Wednesdays of the Month. Instead, the youth are encouraged to attend church on Sunday morning and join us for lunch afterward to discuss the subject matter of the sermon. The goal here is to give the youth a picture of the Church in Acts 2: a body of believers who met regularly to hear the Apostles teaching, for the breaking of bread, fellowship and prayer. Middle School YouthMiddle School Youth Group meets every wednesday at our facility (800 Cressman Trail) and is led by one of our elders, Rollan Wengert. Doors open @ 5:30 and youth group begins at 6:00.
